A rare, high-altitude Pinot Noir from Shangri-La's Dagu Village — silky, perfumed, and produced in fewer than 1,200 bottles a year.
Region: Shangri-La, Yunnan, China | Grape: 100% Pinot Noir | Vintage: 2024 | Style: Dry Red | Volume: 750ml
Terroir
The Shangri-La wine region sits at an altitude of 1,700–3,000m, among the highest-elevation vineyards in the world. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, it enjoys a dry climate, abundant sunshine and long daylight hours year-round — a rare combination of low latitude and high altitude that shapes elegant, refined wines. This Pinot Noir vineyard was planted in 2016 on sunny slopes in Dagu Village, at 2,500–2,900m — a site with difficult access but exceptional potential. Production is extremely limited, at fewer than 1,200 bottles per year.
Winemaker
Founder and winemaker Ma Jie was named "Winemaker of the Year 2023" by the French wine guide Bettane+Desseauve. Annual production across Petit Mont's Yunnan range is only around 15,000 bottles; the winery acquired a 2-hectare vineyard in Shangri-La in 2024.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby red with a vibrant violet rim. Delicate, multi-layered aromas of red berries — fresh strawberry, raspberry and red cherry — intertwine with subtle notes of wild rose. Soft and silky on the palate, with bright, lively acidity; ripe red fruit is supported by extremely fine, smooth tannins that glide like a veil. Medium-bodied, with surprising concentration and depth. The finish reveals a hint of minerality and subtle spice, leading to a clean, lingering aftertaste.
Food Pairing
Pan-seared salmon, creamy mushroom pasta, roast chicken and other poultry dishes, mild cheeses.
Ideal serving temperature: 16–18°C | Ageing potential: 8–20 years
